About Issue V
Welcome to the fifth issue of The Field Guide Poetry Magazine. This issue is important to us for several reasons. Not only did we receive more submissions this round than for previous issues, but we’ve also welcomed a new reader to our team. Sydney has been an invaluable help and delight to work with, and Olivia and I are grateful to have her with us. We’ve also had the pleasure of reopening our poetry contest to raise funds for All About Pets Rescue in Long Island, New York. Each piece praised our animal companions, and the winners brought a fresh perspective to the pets we often encounter.
With each issue, we seek to publish poetry and art that sings honestly and unabashedly. The works here fulfill that task and bring a raw energy that is unique to this issue. We sensed the heartache, weariness, and despair that the poetry brought to the page and the tangle of uncertainty and beauty in the art pieces. Amid the darkness, though, there is laughter, fun, and life. We loved witnessing each piece balance out the other as we curated this issue.
We hope you enjoy reading Issue 5.
Blessings,
Amanda and Olivia
